Raja Sitaram Roy's Palace- About 25 km southeast of Magura Sadar Upazila, Bangladesh is an archaeological site on the banks of the Madhumati River, locally known as Rajbari, which is considered to be a relic of a prosperous settlement that was established here in the seventeenth-eighteenth centuries. The palace-fortress was built by Sitaram Roy, a bureaucrat in the government of the Nawab of Murshidabad, who rose from the bureaucrat to zamindari and later to the title of Raja through his genius.
After receiving the title, Sitaram Ray continued to expand the kingdom like a king and by increasing the army, he acquired the lands of the neighboring zamindars. He stopped paying revenue to the Nawab government and introduced his own regime in the zamindari as an independent, sovereign king.
Around 1697-98, he settled the zamindari in Mohammadpur. His zamindari is said to have extended from the southern part of Pabna district to the Bay of Bengal and from the central part of Barisal district to the eastern end of Nadia district.
