Naming history |
There is no specific information about naming Mohammadpur upazila. However, Raja Sitaram Roy (born 1657 AD) was the zamindar of the region during the Mughal period. At one stage he declared himself an independent king and stopped paying revenue during the reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. After the local Muslim fakir Mahmud, his capital was renamed Mohammadpur instead of Bagjan. |
